Assuming your girlfriend has no income, you should at least get back the $487 of income tax. You might get back a portion of the CPP as well, depending on when in 2009 you turned 18.

Yes, you claim them as dependents. Depending on your province you may also be able to claim your rent.

Go to ufile.ca and fill it out with your T4 and all your other receipts (like public transportation passes, charitable donations & rent) it's very simple. Your girlfriend will have to claim the Universal Child Care Benefit, but not the Child Tax Credit. She'll have gotten a receipt for that, just enter it on the line it says to under her information slips. If you've received any public assistance (welfare) you have to claim that too *not saying you have, I know firsthand young people can make it on their own and get by with very little income.

Since your family made less than $20,000, you will be able to file your return for free using ufile (if you don't want to, you can use it to figure out your refund and forget the whole thing - you don't have to use it). If you've never filed taxes before you'll have to make sure everything is correct, then print it and mail it in. If you have filed before you may have already gotten you online access numbers (one for you, one for your girlfriend, unless you live in Quebec, then you get 2 each) and you can do it through Netfile. The program gives you the websites and instructions.

If you're not confident enough to do this on your own ask an older friend or family member who has done taxes before to do it for you. I will tell you I have been doing my own taxes since I was 19 and when you're that age they are pretty simple. Just read the instructions.
